Bill was born in Sunderland in the north-east of England but now lives in Leeds, Yorkshire. After over 41 years with the British civil service, Bill retired in 2016 and has since developed a reputation as a researcher, author and historian specialising in Black History. He is co-author of Football’s Black Pioneers which tells the stories of the first black footballers at each of the 92 English Football League clubs.
